Alex Martinson
Alex graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with the class of 2000. She completed a hospital pharmacy residency and worked as an inpatient hospital pharmacist until transitioning to oncology at the Allen Blair Cancer Centre in 2010. Initially working in direct patient care and then as the pharmacy manager, her current role is Provincial Manager of Oncology Drug Programs, Access and Analytics for the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Alex and her team are responsible for implementing new drug programs provincially for Saskatchewan patients, including new drugs or indications, access to clinical trials and facilitating compassionate access programs. They also maintain pharmacy digital systems including BDM, SMART IV pumps, and ARIA CPOE. Alex has a keen interest in ensuring seamless care for patients across the health system and works with the provincial health authority and community pharmacy partners to facilitate access to cancer therapy and provide education on supporting cancer patients during their treatment. In her free time, she follows her daughter around to watch her play ringette and reads about fairies and dragons.
