Montréal and Getting There

About Montréal

Montreal

Montreal, the largest city in Quebec and the second-largest in Canada, is a dynamic metropolis situated on an island in the St. Lawrence River. Renowned for its rich French-Canadian heritage, vibrant arts and festival scene, and diverse culinary culture, Montreal combines European charm with North American energy. With a thriving food scene and a highly walkable downtown core, it offers a welcoming and inspiring setting for the CAPhO Conference.

Getting to Montréal  and the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth

Montreal is easy to reach by air, train or bus – and once you arrive, getting to Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth is simple. Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, the hotel is directly connected to the city’s Central Station and underground pedestrian network (RÉSO), making it a convenient and easily accessible destination.

By Air

Montreal is served by Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), located approximately 20 km west of downtown.

  • Taxi / rideshare: Readily available outside the terminal, with a travel time of about 20-25 minutes to Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth (longer during peak traffic).

  • Public Transit: Take Montréal’s 747 Airport/Downtown express bus, which operates 24/7 and reaches downtown stops in about 45-70 minutes (depending on traffic). One of its stops, at René-Lévesque Blvd & Mansfield (Central Station/Mary-Queen-of-the-World Cathedral), is a short walk from the hotel’s entrance.

By Train

Montreal’s major rail hub, Gare Centrale (Central Station), is located directly beneath Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth. VIA Rail Canada connects Montreal with many Canadian cities (e.g. Toronto, Ottawa, Québec City) via multiple daily trains that arrive at Central Station. Amtrak also operates the Adirondack line from New York City to Montreal, providing a direct rail link from the United States to Central Station. Upon arrival at Central Station, guests can access the hotel lobby directly from the station concourse without even stepping outside.

By Bus

Intercity coaches – such as Orléans Express and other regional carriers – serve downtown Montreal, arriving at the Gare d’autocars de Montréal (Bus Central Station) on Berri Street. From there, the hotel is about 2 km away. You can reach Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth by a short taxi or rideshare trip (around 10 minutes), or by taking the Metro: from the adjacent Berri-UQAM Station, board the Orange Line toward Côte-Vertu and ride 5 minutes to Bonaventure Station, which is connected via underground walkway to the hotel.

By Car

Please refer to the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth website for detailed driving directions to the hotel and information on parking options and fees.
