The Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology (CAPhO) offers a wide variety of awards to recognize members’ achievements in the field of oncology pharmacy.

CAPhO Awards Application Deadlines

CAPhO Awards applications will open during the week of October 7, 2024, with a submission deadline of Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Award

This award is given to an individual or group to recognize an initiative in oncology aimed at fostering inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility. There is one award available annually and it consists of a $500 cash reward.

Larry Broadfield Distinguished Service Award

This award was established to recognize long-serving members who have made ongoing contributions to the success of CAPhO. The award is available annually and consists of a $1,500 cash reward, a certificate and a $2,000 travel grant to attend the annual CAPhO Conference. For the 2024 recipient, the travel grant will be to attend ISOPP CAPhO Symposium 2025.

Merit Award

This award is given in recognition of a project or innovation in oncology pharmacy that aims to provide person-centered care or improve health promotion and advocacy. There are two awards available annually, open to both oncology pharmacists and pharmacy technicians / assistants. It consists of a $1,000 cash reward and a certificate.

Volunteer Recognition Award

CAPhO members volunteer many hours to the Association as part of our efforts to improve oncology pharmacy practice. Each year, one member will be recognized for their contribution with a Volunteer Recognition Award. Open to both oncology pharmacists and pharmacy technicians / assistants. The award is available annually and consists of a $500 cash reward, a certificate and a $2,000 travel grant to attend ISOPP CAPhO Symposium 2025 for the 2024 recipient.

Preceptor / Mentorship Award

This award was established to recognize a CAPhO member who has promoted oncology pharmacy through mentorship or preceptorship and/or who has sought student engagement within the profession. The award is available annually and consists of a $500 cash reward, a certificate and a $2,000 travel grant to participate in the annual CAPhO Conference. For the 2024 recipient, the travel grant will be to attend ISOPP CAPhO Symposium 2025.

Student Member Award

This award was established to recognize pharmacy student members and their contributions to the area of oncology pharmacy. The award is available annually and consists of a $500 cash reward, a certificate and a $2,000 travel grant to participate in the annual CAPhO Conference. For the 2024 recipient, the travel grant will be to attend ISOPP CAPhO Symposium 2025.

Technician / Assistant Award

This award was established to recognize a Pharmacy Technician / Assistant and their contributions to oncology pharmacy by working towards excellence of practice beyond traditional roles. Open only to Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants, it is available annually and consists of a $500 cash reward, a certificate and a $2,000 travel grant to participate in the annual CAPhO Conference. For the 2024 recipient, the travel grant will be to attend ISOPP CAPhO Symposium 2025.

Past President Award

This award is presented to the outgoing President of the CAPhO Board of Directors at the end of their two-year term. The award consists of a certificate.

CAPhO Conference Poster Awards

Four CAPhO Poster Awards are presented annually at the CAPhO Conference and will be presented at the ISOPP CAPhO Symposium 2025 next year. Each of these awards consists of a $500 cash reward and certificate. Visit the Call for Abstract page for more information.

Honourary Life Membership

The Honourary Life Membership is no longer awarded given incorporation and CAPhO’s current awards program. It was granted to CAPhO members to recognize outstanding, long-term (>20 years) career contributions related to the profession of oncology pharmacy and to CAPhO. Members who received Honourary Life Memberships prior to incorporation in 2017 are: Lauren (Flay) Charbonneau, Roxanne Dobish, Edgar Goldstein (deceased), Hollis Lee Gordon, Janice Kolbinson, Betty Riddell (deceased) and Susan Walisser.
