I had the opportunity to attend the 2024 CAPhO conference in Moncton as the recipient of a Technician/Assistant Travel Grant. As a first-time conference attendee, it was truly an amazing experience, and I am grateful to CAPhO for providing this opportunity and its inclusivity of technicians and assistants.
Having the privilege to attend the conference in person was invaluable and gave me the opportunity to connect with my fellow peers, meet with vendors, and connect with conference speakers as well as industry experts.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Rising Tides Lift All Boats”. For me this was about bringing together experts in the field of Pharmacy to chart a course as a multi-disciplinary team to collaborate and work together sharing knowledge across all disciplines to benefit not only patients but Healthcare as a whole.
Throughout the four days, I was able to attend several sponsored symposia, as well as plenary and break out sessions that covered a diverse range of topics through engaging presentations and case studies that helped me gain a better understanding of the opportunities, as well as the many challenges we face in Oncology care. There was a prevalent theme throughout the presentations highlighting the complexity of new drug therapies and the fatigue experienced by all Healthcare practitioners. Francois Mathieu’s talk “The Edge of Compassion: Staying Well While working in Oncology” echoed the importance of self-care while navigating the demanding field of working in Oncology.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the CAPhO Board and awards committee for selecting me as a recipient and providing me with this opportunity. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the planning committee for organizing a fantastic conference and showcasing the incredible East coast hospitality. I am looking forward to connecting with everyone on the West coast for the 2025 joint ISOPP & CAPhO Conference.
