CAPhO's Board of Directors

The Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology's Board of Directors is comprised of pharmacists, technicians and pharmacy assistants working in oncology.

The Board is comprised of volunteers committed to representing the professional interests and issues of oncology pharmacy at a national level.

The CAPhO Board is also responsible for maintaining our Bylaws.

I graduated from Memorial University in 2010 and then moved to Calgary to complete a pharmacy residency with a focus in oncology. Since that time I have been working as a clinical pharmacist in the BMT program at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and served as the interim clinical research pharmacist in the hematology, oncology and transplant clinic at Alberta Children’s Hospital. I am currently a Clinical Practice Leader for ambulatory oncology and rural pharmacy teams and Vice President of CAPhO. I have an interest in survivorship and enjoy participating in research projects with the BMT long term follow-up clinic.

Research Committee Chair, Clinician Scientist, Ontario — Ancaster, Ontario

Carlo is a Clinical Scientist at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre as well as an Assistant Professor at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto where he teaches in the third year Oncology Therapeutics Course.  He is also involved in training pharmacy students from both the University of Toronto and Waterloo Schools of Pharmacy. Carlo has given numerous presentations at local, national and international meetings with a focused on symptom management and supportive care in the adult oncology setting.

His areas of research interest include the prevention and management of cancer treatment related side effects, particularly in the elderly and the role of pharmacists in improving outcomes of targeted anti-cancer therapies.  He is working to develop a Research Program to evaluate the use of plant derived cannabinoids for symptom management in the oncology setting.  Over five years ago, Carlo initiated a Cannabis Consultation Service at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, to meet the needs of cancer patients interested in using plant derived cannabinoids for medical purposes. This is the first such Service dedicated to cancer patient medical use of plant-based cannabis in Canada.

Pamela Yafai graduated from Dalhousie University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and completed an Accredited Pharmacy residency at Saint John Regional Hospital in 2008. Pamela has worked as a clinical oncology pharmacist for over 15 years and has experience providing patient care in both ambulatory and inpatient settings. She currently works as the Cellular Therapy/Oncology Clinical Resource Pharmacist for Horizon Health Network, New Brunswick. Pamela is the current chair of the CAPhO Communications Committee. on the CAPhO Board of Directors. Her professional interests include quality improvement, pharmacy practice research, and mentorship of pharmacy learners.

Tom McFarlane is currently a Clinical Lecturer and a researcher at the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy in Kitchener, Ontario, where he created, coordinates, and teaches the oncology portion of the curriculum in the Doctor of Pharmacy program and conducts practice-based research.

Andrea started her career as a pharmacy technician in Vancouver over 30 years ago. After almost 10 years at St. Paul’s Hospital, she moved to Red Deer (AB), then Burlington (ON), and finally to Kelowna (BC), where she and her husband raised their 4 children over the past 18 years. She has enjoyed her role in the implementation of the NAPRA Model standards in her pharmacy and continues to support her technicians to work in their full scope of practice. When not at work or watching her kids in their sports, Andrea enjoys hiking with her dog Finny. She also loves to travel and recently went on a trip through Italy with her family which was one of the best family trips yet.

Nimisha is a graduate from the University of Waterloo, Doctor of Pharmacy program. She is an Oncology Pharmacist and Oncology Coordinator at Extend Pharmacy in Ottawa. Her practice is specialized in enhancing the medication experience for patients starting on take home anti-cancer regimens. Nimisha also works with her team to help coordinate new patient referrals at Extend and ensures that patients are set up to safely and confidently start their new medications.
