Student Member Award

This award was established to recognize student members and their contributions to the area of oncology pharmacy. This award is open to students of a Canadian learning institution who have a student membership with CAPhO. This award is available annually and consists of a $500 cash reward and CAPhO Conference Travel Grant to the value of  $2,000.

The Travel Grant will be forfeited if not used the year it is awarded. 

Eligible Candidates

The candidate must be a CAPhO member who has paid their annual dues prior to February 1st of the nomination year. It can be awarded to a member who is a current student member or who had a student status in the previous year and has progressed to a full membership the current year of nomination. The candidate must be a student at a Canadian learning institution and the candidate should have contributed to the area of oncology pharmacy practice through research, publications, poster presentations, or contribution towards CAPhO through leadership demonstrated throughout their education and training.

Call for Nominations

The call for nominations will be posted on the CAPhO website at the end of each year for nominations for contributions during that year. There will be an announcement in the CAPhO E-newsletter and as well as a notification sent to all CAPhO Committee and CAPhO Taskforce members. The deadline for nominations was Monday, December 10, 2018.

How to Nominate

The person nominating should submit a 1 to 2-page letter indicating why the nominee would be a good candidate for the award and detail all their relevant contributions. This letter should include all contact details of both the nominator and the nominee and submitted via the online Awards and Travel Grants Application site.

Selection of Candidates

Once the deadline for nomination has passed, all of the nominations are reviewed by the Awards Committee and the successful candidate is chosen based on the criteria in this description as well as the content of the application letter. The Awards Committee reserves the right to forego awarding this award. The selection will be done early enough to have the student member attend the CAPhO conference. The student member will be awarded and acknowledged at the upcoming CAPhO conference. If the award winner chooses to attend the CAPhO conference, the criteria of the CAPhO Conference Travel Grant will apply. If the award winner cannot attend the CAPhO conference, the travel grant portion of the award will be forfeited. 

Presentation of award

The award recipient will be announced and presented at the Annual General Meeting in the same year as the nomination.

Eligible expenses 

Eligible expenses are conference registration, hotel accommodations at the negotiated symposium rate plus taxes to a maximum of 3 nights, economy airfare and ground transportation. 

Responsibilities of recipient  

While attending the CAPhO Conference the recipient is invited to complete a short shift at the CAPhO booth in order to promote the CAPhO Awards and Grants Program. 


The recipient will be reimbursed based on original receipts to a maximum of $2,000. If less than $2,000 is spent, the recipient will only receive their total expenses.
