Larry Broadfield

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Broadfield, BSc Pharm, MHSc, FCAPhO

Larry was a founding member of the Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology (CAPhO). He co-chaired CAPhO’s first conference in 1988, was CAPhO’s first President in 1996, a leader in the field of oncology pharmacy for many years and the recipient of numerous awards.

During his 30+ year career as an oncology pharmacist, he managed both operations and the clinical program of a major cancer center pharmacy department in Nova Scotia. He was active in research as both an investigator and Research Ethics Board (REB) co-Chair. He was a mentor to many students and colleagues and taught oncology to undergraduates at Dalhousie University for over 15 years.

We are grateful that Larry was able to celebrate CAPhO’s 20th anniversary at this year’s CAPhO Conference. There, he was awarded the FCAPhO designation and saw the first presentation of the Larry Broadfield Distinguished Service Award since the award was renamed in his honour.

Our sympathy goes out to his family, friends and those who knew him. Larry will be forever remembered as a pillar and advocate for oncology pharmacy, spurring forward the profession both in Canada and around the world as a founding member of not only CAPhO, but also as an instrumental leader in the early days of the International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP). We are honoured to have known Larry and will truly miss him.

A service for Larry will be held on Sunday October 16th, 2:30 pm at Rockingham United Church (12 Flamingo Drive) in Halifax, Nova Scotia. There will be a reception in the church basement following the service. Please visit the online obituary for more information.
