CAPhO Awards and Travel Grants

The Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology (CAPhO) is pleased to offer a wide variety of awards and travel grants to its members in order to recognize our members’ achievements in the field of oncology pharmacy and to help them participate in our field’s national and international conferences and events.

 CAPhO Awards

Title Description
Larry Broadfield Distinguished Service Award 

This award was established to recognize long serving members who have made ongoing contributions to the success of CAPhO. The award is available annually and consists of a $1,500 cash reward, certificate and CAPhO Conference Travel Grant to the value of $2,000.

In order to celebrate CAPhO's 20th anniversary, the CAPhO Board of Directors chose to honor Larry Broadfield, one of its founding members. We are proud to announce that the CAPhO Distinguished Service Award will be known as the Larry Broadfield Distinguished Service Award as of 2016 and going forward.

CAPhO Merit Award

This award is given in recognition of a project/innovation in oncology pharmacy aimed at improving patient care and outcomes. There are two (2) awards available annually. It consists of a $1,000 cash reward and certificate. 

Fellow of the Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology (FCAPhO)

The FCAPhO recognizes excellence in the practice of oncology pharmacy in Canada by distinguishing oncology pharmacists and other health care professionals interested in oncology pharmacy who are CAPhO members and have made outstanding contributions to this field and to CAPhO. There are three (3) awards available each year which consist of a certificate, Space pen, use of the FCAPhO logo and a CAPhO Conference Travel Grant to the value of $2,000.

CAPhO Past President Award

This award is presented to the outgoing President of the CAPhO Board of Directors at the end of their two-year term. The award consists of a certificate.

Volunteer Recognition Award

CAPhO members volunteer many hours to the Association as part of our efforts to improve oncology pharmacy practice. Each year, one member will be recognized for his/her contribution with a CAPhO Volunteer Recognition Award. The award is available annually and consists of a $500 cash reward, certificate and CAPhO Conference Travel Grant to the value of $2,000.

Preceptor / Mentorship Award

This award was established to recognize a CAPhO member who has promoted oncology pharmacy through mentorship or preceptorship and/or who has sought student engagement within the profession. The award is available annually and consists of a $500 cash reward, certificate and a CAPhO Conference Travel Grant up to the value of $2,000.

Student Member Award

This award was established to recognize student members and their contributions to the area of oncology pharmacy. The award is available annually and consists of a $500 cash reward, certificate and CAPhO Conference Travel Grant to the value of $2,000.

Technician / Assistant Award

This award was established to recognize a Technician / Assistant and their contributions to Oncology Pharmacy by working towards excellence of practice beyond traditional roles. It is available annually and consists of a $500 cash reward, certificate and CAPhO Conference Travel Grant up to the value of $2,000.

CAPhO Conference Poster Awards

Four CAPhO Poster Awards are presented annually at the CAPhO Conference. Each of these awards consists of a $500 cash reward and certificate. There is one poster award for each of the following categories:

  • Best Overall Poster for Research (Clinical)
  • Best Overall Poster for Research (Non-Clinical)
  • Best Overall Poster for Pharmacy Practice
  • Best Overall Poster for Administration

 

CAPhO Travel Grants

CAPhO Conference Pharmacist Travel Grant

CAPhO holds an Annual Conference at various locations throughout Canada. This grant is dedicated to pharmacist members who are passionate about the area of oncology pharmacy. There are two (2) $2,000 grants available every year to help cover expenses.

CAPhO Conference Student and Resident Travel Grant

CAPhO holds an Annual Conference at various locations throughout Canada. This grant is dedicated to student and resident members who are passionate about the area of oncology pharmacy. There is one (1) $2,000 grant available every year to help cover expenses.

CAPhO  Conference Technician / Assistant Travel Grant

CAPhO holds an Annual Conference at various locations throughout Canada. This grant is dedicated to technician and assistant members who are passionate about the area of oncology pharmacy. There are four (4) $2,000 grants available every year to help cover expenses.

ISOPP Symposium Travel Grant

The International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP) holds an annual Symposium at various locations throughout the world. CAPhO members may apply for a Travel Grant. There are two (2) $5,000 grants available each year to help cover expenses.

Wild Card Travel Grant

There are many Symposia and Conferences geared towards oncology pharmacy practice that are open to pharmacists, technicians / assistants, students and residents to attend at various locations around the world. CAPhO invites all its members to apply for this Travel Grant. A total of $8,000 will be awarded each year at the discretion of the Awards Committee to help cover expenses. There will be two deadlines to apply.

 

Honourary Life Membership

Honourary Life Membership

The Honourary Life Membership is no longer awarded given incorporation and CAPhO’s current awards program.  It was granted to CAPhO members to recognize outstanding, long-term (>20 years) career contributions related to the profession of oncology pharmacy and to CAPhO.   Members who received Honourary membership prior to incorporation in 2017 are:  Lauren (Flay) Charbonneau, Roxanne Dobish, Edgar Goldstein, Hollis Lee Gordon, Janice Kolbinson, Betty Riddell and Susan Walisser.
